22-09-2025

Diomisley Llerena Suárez, the first secretary of the Communist Party Committee in the Cruces municipality of Cienfuegos province, died in a traffic accident on Saturday afternoon near the Paradero de Camarones area. The crash also claimed the life of her driver, Efrén Delgado, who was operating the official vehicle in which they were traveling. The incident occurred around 6:20 p.m., according to provincial authorities who confirmed the fatalities through official channels.

The Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party in Cienfuegos issued a statement acknowledging the tragedy but did not provide specific details about the accident's causes. Witness accounts cited by local social media sources suggest the vehicle was traveling at high speed, estimated around 150 km/h, during heavy rainfall conditions in that section of road. However, official investigations remain ongoing to determine the precise technical causes and any potential responsibilities.

Llerena Suárez had served as municipal Party secretary since 2021 and dedicated her career to political work, having previously held various positions within the Young Communist Union before transitioning to professional Party work in 2012. Armando Carranza Valladares, the provincial Party first secretary, expressed condolences to family members and colleagues, describing the deceased official as an example of professional dedication and loyalty with extensive experience as an educator and political leader.

While official reports have focused primarily on Llerena Suárez's political trajectory, the driver Efrén Delgado has received minimal mention in institutional communications. The case remains under investigation by authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal incident. Multiple organizations and individuals in Cienfuegos have expressed shock and mourning following the sudden deaths of both individuals.
