Health Authorities Investigate Salmonella Source After Music Festival in A Coruña

01-07-2025

The Consellería de Sanidade has reported a significant increase in the number of individuals affected by a salmonella outbreak linked to the Trasan Fest, a music and gastronomy festival held last weekend in Oza-Cesuras, A Coruña. The outbreak, initially reported with 94 cases, has now risen to 162, with 22 requiring hospitalization. Health authorities are diligently working to trace the source of the contamination, with preliminary evidence pointing towards a bacterial origin caused by salmonella.

Investigations are focusing on the food served during the event, particularly the tortillas de patata, which are suspected to be the primary vector of the outbreak. The Dirección Xeral de Saúde Pública is conducting epidemiological surveys among the affected individuals to pinpoint the exact cause of the food poisoning. Three confirmed cases of salmonella have been identified so far, underscoring the severity of the outbreak.

The festival, which attracted over a thousand participants, has come under scrutiny as health officials collaborate with local authorities and event organizers to review the food handling and preparation practices during the event. Organizers have expressed their full cooperation with the investigation, though they have also suggested that the eggs used in the tortillas might have been contaminated prior to the festival.

As the community reels from the outbreak, the incident highlights the importance of stringent food safety measures at large public gatherings. The health department continues to monitor the situation closely, providing updates as more information becomes available. Meanwhile, those affected are receiving the necessary medical attention, with no severe cases reported at this time.
