Iberoamerican Stars Shine at the XII Platinum Awards in Madrid

29-04-2025

The XII Platinum Awards for Iberoamerican audiovisual content lit up Madrid this Sunday, showcasing a blend of flamenco and gospel in its opening act. The event, attended by 1,700 guests, highlighted the cultural richness of Iberoamerica, with the Spanish film 'La infiltrada' and the Colombian series 'Cien años de soledad' leading the nominations with 11 and 8 nods, respectively. Performances by Pablo Alborán and Prince Royce added to the evening's allure, though María Becerra's last-minute cancellation due to an emergency hospitalization in Argentina was noted.

Eva Longoria was honored with a lifetime achievement award for her contributions to the audiovisual industry and her efforts to elevate the visibility of the Latino community within the U.S. entertainment sector. This recognition places her among esteemed previous recipients such as Antonio Banderas, Ricardo Darín, and Sonia Braga, underscoring the awards' commitment to celebrating excellence across the Iberoamerican creative landscape.

Among the highlights was the nomination of Venezuelan writer Alberto Barrera Tyszka for Best Series Creator for 'El secreto del río', a Netflix production that explores themes of machismo, prejudice, and violence through the complex friendship of its protagonists. Set in Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, the series is praised for its authentic portrayal of Mexican culture and landscapes, further enriching the diversity of stories recognized by the Platinum Awards.

The ceremony, broadcast for the first time across the United States, not only celebrated the achievements of Iberoamerican cinema and television but also served as a platform for cultural exchange and unity. With 23 categories, the awards, organized by EGEDA and FIPCA, continue to foster the growth and recognition of Iberoamerican talent on a global stage, reinforcing Madrid's role as a pivotal hub for the region's audiovisual industry.
