Madrid Mayor Almeida's Popularity Soars as PP Gains Ground Ahead of 2027 Elections

15-05-2025

In a recent survey conducted by Sigma Dos for 'El Mundo', Madrid's political dynamics show a significant shift, with the People's Party (PP), led by Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida, poised to strengthen its absolute majority. The survey indicates a rise in voter intention from 44.5% to 47.8%, potentially granting the PP one or two additional seats. This development underscores the party's growing influence in the city's governance.

The Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) emerges as the leading opposition force, according to the same survey. With a projected 20.5% of the votes, the PSOE is expected to secure 13 seats, overtaking Más Madrid, which would fall to the third position with 9 or 10 seats. This shift highlights the changing preferences of Madrid's electorate and the PSOE's resurgence as a key political player in the city.

Vox, on the other hand, faces a setback, losing one seat to the PP and retaining only four seats with 7.5% of the votes. The survey also notes that Podemos remains on the outskirts of the City Council, with insufficient support to secure a seat. These changes reflect the evolving political landscape in Madrid, with traditional parties consolidating their positions while newer movements struggle to maintain their foothold.

Mayor Almeida's leadership and popularity are evident, with 99.7% of respondents recognizing him, the highest among municipal leaders. Despite mixed ratings for all leaders, Almeida's position at the top of the popularity ranking, coupled with the PP's electoral gains, suggests a favorable outlook for his party in the upcoming 2027 elections. As Madrid's political scene continues to evolve, the survey offers a glimpse into the potential shifts that could redefine the city's governance in the years to come.
