Spanish National Police have arrested a man in Palma de Mallorca for allegedly storing and distributing more than 31,000 files of child pornography across his electronic devices. The suspect, identified as a Spanish national, had organized the illicit material into 675 separate folders according to different themes, according to police statements released following the operation.
The investigation originated from cyberpatrolling activities conducted by the Central Cybercrime Unit of the Group II for Child Protection, part of the General Commissariat of Judicial Police in Madrid. Authorities detected illegal file-sharing activity through peer-to-peer networks, which enable decentralized communication between users worldwide and facilitate the exchange of various file types including videos, images, and documents.
Following analysis of the digital evidence, police identified the suspect as having uploaded child exploitation material from Palma while also conducting numerous downloads over several months. The investigation revealed the man was connected to approximately 31,000 files containing child pornography content, leading to his detention on suspicion of corruption of minors offenses related to possession and distribution of audiovisual material.
With judicial authorization obtained from the corresponding court, National Police agents executed a search warrant last Tuesday, resulting in the suspect's arrest and seizure of electronic devices. The operation followed a collaboration request made to the Economic Crime and Technological Offenses Group of the National Police in Palma by Madrid's specialized child protection units, highlighting coordinated efforts against online sexual exploitation of minors.
