The 15K Nocturna Valencia 'Gana Energía' illuminated the streets of Valencia on Saturday night as 13,000 runners participated in one of the city's most anticipated athletic events. The nighttime race, organized by Club de Atletismo Valencia CA, has established itself as a cornerstone of Spain's running calendar, consistently selling out registrations and attracting both elite athletes and amateur runners. With its flat, fast course certified by the Royal Spanish Athletics Federation, the event offers participants ideal conditions for personal bests while showcasing Valencia's urban landscape under nighttime illumination.
The race route transformed the city center, beginning and ending at Avenida del Ingeniero Manuel Soto in the port area. Runners followed a completely flat course past iconic landmarks including Paseo de la Alameda, Mestalla stadium, Puente del Real, Calle de la Paz, Plaza de la Reina, Plaza del Ayuntamiento, and the City of Arts and Sciences. The event's festive atmosphere was enhanced by music, entertainment stations, and enthusiastic crowds lining the streets to support participants throughout the 15-kilometer journey.
Significant traffic disruptions accompanied the event, with road closures beginning as early as 1:30 PM for setup along Avenida del Ingeniero Manuel Soto. Additional closures along the race route commenced at 8:00 PM, while parking restrictions took effect from 3:00 AM on Saturday in central Alameda and adjacent areas. The Valencia Municipal Transport Company implemented route changes affecting 33 bus lines between 9:30 PM Saturday and 1:30 AM Sunday, with lines C1, C2, 4, 13, 18, 19, 30, 40, 94, and 95 suspended during the race itself.
The event demonstrated strong female participation with over 4,500 women runners among the record turnout. Eric Loré of Bikila Atletismo claimed victory with a time of 45 minutes and 10 seconds. As the traditional kickoff to Valencia's autumn running season, the 15K Nocturna serves as a precursor to longer distance events like the Valencia Half Marathon and Marathon, cementing the city's reputation as a premier running destination while maintaining its commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility through the 'Gana Energía' initiative.
