Serbian Businessman Accused of Murdering Wife in Spain Found Dead in Miami Jail

30-04-2025

David Knezevich, a Serbian businessman accused of the kidnapping and murder of his Colombian-American wife, Ana Maria Henao Knezevich, in Spain, was found dead in his cell at the Federal Detention Center in Miami. The incident, confirmed by his attorney Jayne Weintraub as a suicide, marks a grim end to a case that had garnered international attention due to the mysterious disappearance of Ana Maria in February 2024.

Ana Maria Henao Knezevich, a 40-year-old Colombian-American, vanished under suspicious circumstances in Madrid, where she had moved to start anew following a tumultuous divorce process with Knezevich. The last communication from her phone, which friends doubted was sent by her, claimed she had met someone wonderful and was heading to a countryside house with no cell coverage. This led to immediate concerns and a police investigation.

The family of Ana Maria expressed mixed emotions following Knezevich's death, stating it closes a painful chapter filled with fear that justice might not be served. However, they lamented the possibility of never recovering her remains or fully understanding the betrayal she endured. The case, built largely on circumstantial evidence including security footage and GPS records, had been pending trial in a federal court in South Florida.

Authorities confirmed that Knezevich was found unresponsive in his cell early Monday and pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts. The FBI and U.S. Marshals Service were notified, with officials assuring the public was never in danger. The death of Knezevich leaves many questions unanswered, particularly regarding the whereabouts of Ana Maria's body, which remains missing.
