Spanish Police Detain Cleaning Employee Over Covert Recording Devices in Staff Facilities

25-09-2025

National Police in Jerez de la Frontera have arrested a 29-year-old man employed as a cleaner at a shopping center for allegedly installing hidden recording devices in female restrooms reserved for staff. The suspect faces charges related to privacy violations after several employees discovered a concealed mobile phone positioned to capture intimate moments.

According to police reports issued on Wednesday, multiple workers alerted security personnel after finding a smartphone camouflaged behind ventilation grilles in the women's bathrooms. Officers confirmed the device was oriented to record individuals in private situations and was transmitting footage in real time to a smartwatch linked to the suspect.

Investigators identified the device's owner as a cleaning employee at the same commercial establishment. Police records indicate the detained individual had previously been arrested in 2023 for similar incidents at another large retail location in the city, suggesting a pattern of behavior.

With judicial authorization, officers from the Judicial Police Brigade accessed the seized device's content, locating recordings of several affected women. Authorities emphasized there is no evidence suggesting the images were shared or distributed to third parties. The investigation remains ongoing as officials examine the full scope of the privacy breaches.
