Andalusia's Tax Relief Package Includes Celiac Support Measure

29-09-2025

The regional government of Andalusia has announced a new €100 tax deduction for families with celiac members, marking the fourth fiscal relief measure introduced in less than a week. President Juanma Moreno revealed the initiative through social media on Monday, explaining that the deduction will apply to taxpayers who have celiac disease themselves, or whose spouse or descendants are affected. The measure is scheduled to take effect with the 2026 regional budget and will be applicable in the income tax declaration filed next spring.

President Moreno justified the measure by highlighting the financial burden faced by celiac families. "In Andalusia there are almost 40,000 celiac people. That's why many families do their shopping every day looking for the 'gluten-free' label on products. Some of these products cost four times more than regular ones," Moreno stated. He emphasized that celiac disease has no medication, with dietary control being the only current treatment option, forcing families to pay significantly more for staple foods like pasta and bread.

The celiac deduction is expected to benefit approximately 30,000 Andalusians and will have an estimated fiscal impact of nearly €4 million. Moreno described the measure as recognizing the daily reality faced by these families and providing partial relief from their additional financial burden. "Eating gluten-free shouldn't be a luxury for anyone," the president added, positioning the deduction as part of his government's broader social support initiatives.

This latest tax reduction completes a package of four fiscal measures announced within days, including deductions for gym memberships, veterinary expenses for new pets, and an expansion of rental housing deductions. The broader tax relief package represents a significant reduction in regional revenues, with the sports deduction alone accounting for €36 million of the total €55 million in tax cuts. The celiac deduction, while smaller in scale, addresses what the regional government characterizes as a specific cost-of-living challenge affecting thousands of households across southern Spain.
